Huge disappointment, to start the day. Amit Panghal lost in pre-quarters to Columbia's Herney Yuberjen Rivas Martinez in the men's Fly. He started ok in the first round but from second round Amit was literally running away from the Columbian boxer... Third round was just so sad to watch.. something went horribly wrong ... Either Amit was injured or he pressure got to him...

India at Tokyo 2020 - Our Performance on Day 8- 30th July 2021

 Archery

Deepika Kumari beat Ksenia Perova in pre-quarters to get to the quarter finals. It also went to the shoot off and Deepika came out on top.. Deepika lost in the quarter finals against the the Korean An San. The match started with Deepika shooting a 7 and the Korean shooting a 10 and the Korean was on top through the match. She lost in straight sets 6-0. Korean went on to win the Gold eventually. Our wait for the archery medal continues right from the days of Limba Ram.

Athletics -
Athletics starts on 30th July

Avinash Sable finished 7th in the 3000m Steeplechase heat 2. He created a national rank. However, that was not good enough to make it to semis. Luck also didn't play a part as in the next heat all 3 qualifiers were slower than Avinash. If only he had been in the next heat :(. He was the 13th fastest in the field of 42. He ran a 8.18.12 and earlier national record was 8.20.20 (which was also his record)

MP Jabir finished last in his heat in 400 m hurdles heats 5. He finished overall 33rd in a field of 36.  He ran a 50.77 (PB of 49.13)

Not much was expected of Dutee Chand in 100m heatsShe finished 7th in her heat and overall 45th in a field of 54.  She ran a 11.54 (PB 11.17)

4*400 Mixed relay team - We had 3 from Tamil nadu in the team, I don't remember such a line up mostly Tamil nadu runners. Finished last in the heat way behind others.. We were 6th after the first change over and last after Revathi's leg and after Subha the gap got worser and Rajiv was like 200meters behind when he started and finished about 10 second behind the first placed Polish team.

Badminton -

Sindhu defeated Akane Jamguchi in the Quarters in straight games. It was a completely dominating performance. There was a moment in the second game when Akane was on couple of game points but Sindhu came back to win it.

Boxing -

Simranjit lost to Thailand's Sudaporn Seesondee in the pre-quarters. In the first round I personally felt Simranjit fought really well but all 5 judges thought the Thai boxer won it. In the second round Simranjit was trying to force her way to scoring but let her guard down which was taken advantage by the Thai boxer who won the second round convincingly. Once you lose 2 rounds on all 5 cards it is very difficult to come back in the 3rd which is what happened and Thailand boxer won it 5-0.

Lovlina defeated Chinese Taipei's Chin Nien Chen in the Quarter finals. Taipei's boxer is a former world champion and had defeated Lovlina in their last 2 meetings. Lovlina had a clear strategy of fighting from distance and used her reach and height advantage beautifully. First round both boxers were cagey was finding what the other was trying to do and both landed few blows but Navnit came on top 3-2 and in the second round Lovlina fought really well using her height and own it 4-1. After losing 2 rounds the Taipei boxer needed a very bring round in the 3rd which was not to be and Lovlina was using her height and not giving much chance for the Taipei boxer to come back to win it. She is not assured of a medal. Next up the Turkey boxer who looks very strong. Hope Lovlina and the coaches come up with a clear strategy to defeat her. It's going to be very tough for Lovlina in semis.

Equestrian -

5 am - Fouuad Mirza is placed 7th in the field of 42 (total 63 competitors) after the completion of 2 of 3 sessions of Dressage. There is still Cross Country and Jumping left.

Golf -

The action was interrupted due to lightning.

Hockey -

Indian women beat Ireland 1-0 in Pool A match. It was a must win match for the Indians. The Indian's are struggling still to finish anything in the D. They made so many entries to the D but couldn't finish it. Gurjit was not in the pitch and all our penalty corners was coming to nothing as Grace was not able to do much with them. Finally India was able to break the deadlock in the last 5 minutes to win in 1-0.
Indian men defeated Japan 5-3 in the final Pool A match. We had already qualified for the quarter finals and confirmed second spot in Pool A. They had rested some of the players like Rupinder and Mandeep Singh.

Sailing -

Nethra Kumanan finished 37th and 38th in the 9th and 10th race. She finished 35th overall in a field of 44
Vishnu Saravanan finished 3rd and 15th in 9th and 10th race. He finishes 20 in the overall field of 35. Really happy with a top 3 finish at least in one race for Vishnu.
Ganapathy and Varun finished 17th, 11th and 16th in the 7th, 8th and 9th race. They are currently placed 17th overall.

Shooting -

Manu Bhaker, Rahi Sarnobat shot 582 and 573 to finish 15th and 32nd in the 25m Pistol. The dry run in shooting continued even today.
