India at Tokyo 2020 - Our Performance on day 5 - 27-July

Badminton -

Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag defeated Britain's Ben Lane and Sean Vendy in straight games and finished with 2 wins. 3 teams had 2 wins each and since our team lost the in straight games and other 2 teams lost 1-2 we missed out on qualifying to quarters

Boxing -

Lovlina Borgohain defeated Germany's Narine Apetz to head to the quarters. It was a bit scrappy in the first round but Lovlina did enough in the second and held on to the lead in the third even though Apetz landed few good punches in the third round.

Hockey -

After the disastrous outing against Aussies, Indian defeated Spain 3-0. It was a pretty good performance defensively as Spain couldn't do much in our D.

Sailing -

After 6 races, Nethra Kumanan is placed overall 33rd in a field of 44. She finished 32nd and 39th in the 5th and 6th races today.

After 6 races, Vishnu Saravanan is placed overall 22nd in a field of 34. He finished 23rd, 22nd and 12th in the 4th, 5th and 6th races today.

Ganapathy and Varun finished 18 in a field of 19 in the first race. Their 2nd and 3rd races were postponed

Shooting -

It's complete disaster in shooting. Mixed team events were our definite shot at medals and today all 4 teams came shot. In the pistol event, Abhishek's poor run in the qualifying continued and Yashaswini also was not firing. Manu also was not at her peak and Saurabh was the only one in good form in the pistol event. Manu and Saurabh were first after the Qualification round 1 but shot poorly in round 2 and didn't progress to the medal matches. Abhishek and Yashaswini got knocked out in the qualification round 1 itself as they finished 17th in a field of 20

In the Rifle event the poor form of our shooters continued. Elavenil and Divyansh finished 12th and Anjum and Deepak finished 18th in the 29 team field and were knocked out in the first round itself.

There was much expected from our shooting contingent and it has been complete disaster so far.

Table Tennis - Sharath Kamal started off really well against China's world no 3 La Mong in the men's 3rd round match. It was close till the third game and end of it it was 2-1 for Mong. After that Mong stepped up a notch and Sharath couldn't match up in the 4th and 5th games. Sharath lost 4-1. With that our Table Tennis events comes to an end.
